Basic Business Website for Online Teachers

Creating a basic business website doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. If you search for a free website builder, you will find plenty of options. A basic, free website is a great way to share info about your online teaching/tutoring business globally!

Do I need to host my business website in China so my students/clients there can access it?

Hosting a website within the Great Firewall of China requires jumping through a lot of extra hoops, including getting an Internet Content Provider (ICP) filing. The good new is that no, you don’t need to host your website in China.

If your target audience is in China, it’s important to make sure that they will be able to access your website. You can go HERE to test if a site is accessible in China.

Strikingly: The Popular Choice

One of the most popular options among online teachers is Strikingly. There are a few reasons for it’s popularity among online teachers:

  1. Free website hosting
  2. Easy/intuitive website builder
  3. Optimization for China

Those in China will be able to access a Strikingly website. Like most other web hosts located outside of China, Strikingly websites can still be a bit slow for those who try to access it from within China. The good news is that Strikingly has a free option for optimizing your website so that it will load quicker for them. You will need to manually request that your Strikingly website be optimized to load faster for China.

Terms, Conditions, and Policies, Oh My!

Don’t let these intimidate you! If needed, there are several sites where you can get these for free or for a low one-time fee. The sites guide you through some simple questions to determine your specific needs, and they will then generate the customized text for you to insert into your website. You can find these sites with a simple Google search. My personal preference is Termly.

Please note: you should check to see if your local government requires you to have any specific terms, conditions, and/or policies on your business website. The following information in this section about terms and policies is based on the USA.

Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions are not currently required, but you may want to include them to help establish your intellectual property rights. They are also useful if you provide users login access to engage directly on your website. You can find more information on all of that HERE.

Privacy Policy

If you are gathering any kind of user information (name, email address, etc.) through your website, you will need to have a privacy policy. You can find more information about that HERE.
